Over the past several years, neuroscience concepts and quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) technology have been used in organizational research to examine leadership phenomena. The purpose of this research is to better understand leadership and its outcomes in an ecologically valid manner by focusing on intrinsic aspects of electrical brain functioning of leaders. In this regard, a variety of leadership constructs have been examined including visionary, transformational, complex, and ethical leadership, as well as abusive supervision. This research will be overviewed during the presentation with an explanation of the nature of qEEG constructs that can be derived and measured, and some reporting of example findings. In addition, new directions will be touched upon, including possible dyadic/small team applications and the potential of neurofeedback as a leader development tool.
