"Brexit" has become a synonym for deep-seated discontent with liberal economic policies -- most notably, free trade -- that have served as foundations for economic policy in the past thirty years.

The Brexit spirit has triggered political upheaval in the United Kingdom and the United States and may inspire similar developments in other jurisdictions.

This presentation will examine the economic and social impulses that appear to motivate the Brexit movement and analyzes how these impulses affect the future of competition law.

The paper proposes a new political bargain that relies on competition policy to promote growth and commits governments to more fully address the displacement that competition causes.
